Frequently Asked Questions
If you don’t find the answers to your questions here, please contact me!
Hey Ryan, do you do custom orders or commissions?
I am open to discussing custom orders or commissions, though I am fairly rigid with them. I do not match colors, make replicas of other potters’ work, or try to match commercially made goods. My work in the studio is ever-evolving, meaning that something I made a few years ago may not be repeatable now. But please do ask if you’re curious about something!
Can I use these in the microwave, dishwasher, and oven?
Hand-washing and avoiding the dishwasher, microwave, and oven will certainly give your pot the longest life. I personally use my pots in the microwave, dishwasher, and oven, while understanding that these actions can sometimes put stress on a piece of pottery. I will not be able to provide any discounts, refunds, or replacements for vessels broken during use, so use at your own risk. If you decide to use your pot in the oven, heat it up in the preheating oven.
Where does your clay come from?
All of the clay used in the Humble Pottery studio comes from North Carolina. It is processed at a plant called StarWorks and then is transported to my studio on the coast of North Carolina.
Do you ship internationally?
Absolutely! There’s nowhere on our planet I won’t ship!
What makes handmade pottery more expensive than commercially made pottery?
Great question! Making something by hand requires skill, time, and knowledge. Commercially made goods are often created in machine based factories, formed by molds, and packaged by machinery as well. In a culture where we are surrounded by mass produced goods, having a handmade item is special. Though purchasing a handmade pot may be slightly more expensive on the front end, you’re investing in your own unique treasure, a growing small business, and countless future memories. It’s hard to put a value on that.
Is this pottery safe for food?
Unless otherwise noted, the pots in my shop are food safe! Most of our pots are glazed with a “liner glaze” which is a food safe glaze applied on the inside of the vessel.
Do you offer discounts?
Occasionally, we will have sales/discounts for holidays or special events. If you want to be included in this, make sure to sign up for our mailing list in order to never miss a deal!
