About Me:

Hi there! My name is Ryan McFall and I am the sole owner and operator of Humble Pottery. I began my ceramic journey during my undergraduate studies at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. I have a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from UNCW and continue to work in the mental health field, alongside my ceramic career. I was instructed by Aaron Wilcox, MFA while at UNCW and then completed an apprenticeship with David McDonald of Limberlost Pottery in Prescott, AZ. My time with both potters was formative and has had a great impact on my progress as an artist.

About Humble Pottery:

Humble Pottery was created through failures, lessons, and ultimately successes. I have never encountered a more humbling experience than making pottery, where something can go wrong at any step of the process. My first batch of work that I created outside of university consisted of 52 vessels, which took me a few months to create. These pieces were all rendered defective in the final firing of the kiln. This was the first of many experiences that contributed to the name Humble Pottery. These ongoing lessons have helped form me into the craftsman I am today. I celebrate the victories and learn from the mistakes. This is now the theme of my business and my personal life, and it is something that I try to embody each day.
